About this ledger

The Cove Ledger is an independent editorial reference on Halibut Cove, Alaska, the water around it and the boats that reach it. It is written for the traveller planning a stay across Kachemak Bay, for the angler reading a tide table before a morning on the water, and for the reader who wants to know what the place actually is before booking anything.

Halibut Cove has no road. Everything and everyone arrives by boat or by float plane, and that single fact shapes the village, the season and the day. The entries here start from that fact and answer one question each.

What an entry contains

Each entry takes exactly one question about the cove, the crossing, a stay or the water. The answer comes first, before any background. What follows is written so a reader can jump to the part they need: which table to read, which month matters, what a tide does to a plan, what is normal and what is not.

The sources are named at the end of the entry. They are the published tide and current tables, the marine forecasts, the state park and wildlife publications, the charts, and the public records that settle a question. Where a source does not settle it, the entry says so instead of guessing.

Corrections

Send a correction to [email protected] with the address of the entry, the sentence you believe is wrong and the source that settles it. An entry that is corrected is republished with a new checked-on date, and the date is the only thing that hides the correction.
